Amal is an organization that is built to be financially self-sustaining: the proceeds from our restaurant, cooking classes and catering service generally cover our operating costs which include rent and overhead, salaries for staff and trainers, and living stipends for students. However, donations have been crucial in these situations:
- To start new projects for our students that we don't have funds/grants for, such as the Sign Language Cafe in 2018 which employs several of our deaf students.
- To cover unexpected costs within the organization, like planting our vegetable and herb garden during the pandemic which now supplies us with an abundance of produce.
- During the pandemic, donations were critical in helping us continue to pay our staff, many of whom became the sole source of income for several households.
- During the pandemic, we conducted a food drive during which we distributed 2500 food baskets (some 80 tons of food) to families facing difficulties.
